The Russell Curling Club is very excited to receive a grant for $724,000 for our expansion program. As you know, Jean Marc Lalonde, our MPP for Glengary, Prescott, Russell and Pierre Lemieux, our federal Member of Parliament made the announcement in Casselman on Tuesday, June 30. . The grant was awarded through a joint federal/provincial Recreational Infrastructure Program - Ontario (RlnC Ont). As per the terms of the grant, the Russell Curling Club must contribute the remaining one-third ($362,000) of the total $1,086,000 for this project, and the expansion must be completed by March 31, 2011. This schedule means that we will have the new Club fully operational for our 100th anniversary in 2012. I want to thank the Expansion Committee, and in particular Jim Campbell, for their hard work in a very short period of time. Club members and the people of Russell Township will benefit from this new facility for years to come. . And now our collective challenge is to raise the Russell Curling Club's share of the required funding for this project. Last year, through our activities, we raised close to $50,000 which has now been pledged to this project. . To help our Club members, together with the Russell community, to rise to this challenge and meet our fundraising goals, we are seeking volunteers from our Club members to participate on our Building Committee, Fundraising and Grants Committee or Special Events. Anyone interested, please contact me as soon as possible at 613-445-3613 or at john-sonja.tobias@sympatico.ca. . At our Open House on Friday, September 18, we will unveil our master plan outlining the activities and programs for the next three years. We have invited Jean Marc Lalonde and Pierre Lemieux as our special guests for the evening. . I am counting on your support and participation in this fantastic opportunity for the Russell Curling Club and for the people in our community. John Tobias President Russell Curling Club
